Wilhelm II (1859-1941), was a German Kaiser (formal German title that equalizes with emperor) who lived and was influenced in the Island of Corfu. He was one of the most recognizable public figures of World War I., who was enjoying spending his summers at Achilleion Palace in Corfu.
During his staying, he performed diplomatic activities and Achilleion Place became the center of European diplomacy.
According to history, besides the area of Gastouri and his residence, Wilhelm II loved to visit a specific spot on the village of Pelekas which is 13 km away from the Corfu Old Town. There, on a rock pinnacle which is still named the "Kaisers Throne", he used to relax and think about his operations, helped by admiring the panoramic view of island inland and sea. Today, the Kaiser’s Observatory- as it is the formal name, stands at an altitude of 270 meters and on a platform modulated on the rock offers a 360° view over the island and a closest view with the binoculars use.
